IV Programs

The Memphis Council for International Visitors (MCIV) helps enable a better understanding of all cultures and helps promote Memphis as a vibrant center for commerce, culture, and tourism. MCIV does this through its participation in The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) which is administered by the U.S. Department of State. Emerging leaders in government, politics, media, education, science, labor relations, the arts, and other fields visit Memphis to meet their professional counterparts, explore their interests, and experience American social and cultural life. These emerging leaders from around the world are selected by our U.S. Embassies abroad and visit Memphis for three to five days before traveling to other U.S. cities. Under the professional association of the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV), local members (like MCIV) develop professional programs, arrange cultural activities, and provide home hospitality for international visitors. MCIV is one of 92 non-profits in 45 states that hosts this program.

The IVLP is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program. It seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders. These visits reflect the international visitors’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States. Alumni of the IVLP include 290 current and former chiefs of state and heads of government, more than 2,000 cabinet level ministers, and thousands of prominent figures in various disciplines around the world.
